What is Postini?
Postini is a completely customizable email protection service which filters and quarantines your spam and viruses before they ever hit your network. Each user is assigned a Message Center. Your legitimate email messages are delivered to your email inbox, just as they always have, but junk and virus-infected email is routed to your Message Center. You can remove unwanted messages and deliver the ones you want from the Message Center. You can also safely read the contents of a virus-infected email in your Message Center without the risk of harming your own personal system.
What are Message Center filter categories?
You can eliminate nearly all unsolicited messages from entering your email inbox because in addition to default filters for junk email, Postini's filtering system can intelligently determine if messages fall into one of four category Filters:

How is my privacy ensured?
Messages are filtered in real time and never stored on disk. Postini uses advanced filtering technique built on heuristic rules, i.e., no human reads your email. Postini is the only service which is certified by WebTrust and SAS 70 Type II compliant. It qualifies Postini for confidentiality, privacy, and availability. Postini’s patented pass through technology complies with HIPAA, GLBA and SOX privacy requirements.
Could my legitimate email be accidently marked as junk?
It can happen, particularly in early stages of use. Postini is an adaptive system, it learns as you use it. You can also adjust your filtering policy from lenient-to-aggressive tolerance order. You can remove unwanted messages and deliver the ones you want from the Message Center.
How long is my junk email held?
All quarantined messages are automatically deleted after 14 days, unless you remove or deliver them. It is recommended that you should daily check your Message Center. You will receive reminders instructing you to check your Message Center and review quarantined email.
Could I look at my junk mail?
Yes, you can also safely read the contents of your Message Center, which may contain virus-infected email, without the risk of spreading virus or harming your PC or notebook. In case you in fact want to receive junk email without filtering, you can turn the junk Email Assistant off at anytime in your Message Center.
Who Administers Postini?
It is administered by the admin at your company. If the admin allows it, you can adjust your settings to better suit your personal preferences.
What customer information is needed to setup the service?
You will need to provide following information:
- Domain Name(s) for which service is ordered along with a list of all email accounts for each domain that you want to setup for filtering.
- All email addresses such as sales@XXX, info@XXX, tech@XXX, and any terminated employee mailboxes where you still check their email. Make sure you do not miss any email addresses otherwise you will lose the email going to those addresses after the Postini non-account blocking is implemented.
- Your IP address and server name of your email server(s).
- Your DNS hosting company information to make a change to the public DNS. We will send them an email to give permission for the host to make necessary changes.
How long does it take to setup Postini service?
It takes minutes to setup the service after all the information is available. However, coordination may take extra time. For example, DNS changes may take up to 24 hours depending on the host.

Using Postini is a very easy process. However, we will provide each employee with a handout which explains Postini services and instructions how to log on, create an initial account, etc.
